Course Late Drop Policy
Students have the option to late drop individual courses by meeting with a LAS academic advisor starting the 3rd week of the term through the Friday of the 10th week of the term (Summer Session 1: First Thursday through second Wednesday, and Summer Session 2: Week 2 through Friday of week 5). Up to 4 late drops are permitted over the course of students' undergraduate degree programs. A grade of "W" will show on the transcript for the late dropped, otherwise known as "withdrawn," course(s). More information on the course late drop policy can be found in the UIC Undergraduate Catalog.

If you are interested in using one or more of the four allotted individual course late drops, please consider the following items before making a decision:
Tuition
Late dropped courses will receive a grade of (W) with no tuition adjustment.
Financial Aid
- Withdrawing from a course or courses after the add/drop period (not a full withdrawal from a semester) does not affect current term aid or enrollment hours.
- To maintain your financial aid eligibility, you must make Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) toward completion of your degree. SAP requirements for financial aid are separate from degree progress requirements monitored by the College. The SAP policy is available on the Office of Student Financial Aid website.
- Using a late drop (provided you do not fully withdraw from the term) might not affect your current term aid or enrollment hours, but it will impact your future eligibility by lowering your SAP completion ratio. You will receive a grade of W and no earned semester hours for the course(s) withdrawn.
- GPA is also an important factor in determining SAP for financial aid. A minimum GPA of 2.00/4.00 is required by the end of each academic year. You should consider the impact grades of D or F might have on your GPA. Receiving a grade of F and, therefore, no credit for a course, would also impact your SAP completion ratio.
- If you have questions about how a late drop or your academic performance may affect your financial aid eligibility, please contact: Office of Student Financial Aid, 1800 Student Services Building (SSB), (312) 996-3126, email.
UPASS
- If late dropping a course would cause you to fall below 12 credit hours (for the Fall or Spring terms), or 6 hours (for the Summer term), the U-PASS privileges on your Ventra card, unlimited rides on CTA buses and trains, will not be deactivated. Also, you continue to be responsible for the $140 U-PASS fee.
- If you have questions about the terms of the U-PASS, contact the ID Center: 1790 Student Services Building (SSB), (312) 413-5940, idcenter@uic.edu.
Campus Housing
- If you were enrolled as a full-time student on the 10th day of the term and you paid tuition as a full-time student, then a subsequent late drop of individual course(s) will not impact your campus housing.
- If you have additional questions about how enrollment changes may impact your Campus Housing, please contact Campus Housing: 220 Student Residence Hall (SRH), (312) 355-6300, housing@uic.edu.
Campus Care
- Your CampusCare coverage for the term will not be impacted by one or more course late drops, as long as the following conditions are met:
- You paid the CampusCare fee at the beginning of the term.
- You remain enrolled in an undergraduate program that is assessed Range Tuition and Fees, i.e., Range I (12 hours and over), Range II (6 to 11 hours), Range III (1 to 5 hours), etc. (Note: online programs have a different tuition and fee structure.)
- You have not been issued a refund of the CampusCare fee for any reason.
- If you have questions about whether or not you meet these conditions, please contact CampusCare Student Health Benefit Program: 820 S. Wood St., Suite W310, (312) 996-4915, cchealth@uic.edu.
Intercollegiate Athletics Eligibility
- If you are a student-athlete and having difficulty with one or more courses at midterm and considering a course late drop, consult with your Port Center advisor before making any decisions: Student-Athlete Academic Services, B60 Physical Education Building (PEB), 901 W. Roosevelt Rd., (312) 413-1064.
International Students
- It is important that you maintain your registration requirements.
- Full-time enrollment is required during the fall and spring terms (only 3 credit hours of online coursework can count toward the full-time requirement).
- Falling below 12 semester hours before consulting with the Office of International Services (OIS) will affect your immigration status.
- Contact the OIS with any questions or concerns you may have about maintaining your status, full-time requirement, travel, and employment on or off campus: 2160 Student Services Building (SSB), (312) 996-3121, ois@uic.edu.
Student Veteran Educational Benefits
- If a course late drop would cause you to fall below full-time status, it may affect your educational benefits.
- Contact Student Veteran Affairs immediately to determine the exact impact of dropping a course.
- Once a course is late dropped, complete the Benefit Appeal Form, https://dos.uic.edu/student-veterans-affairs/benefits-and-forms/.
