Fall 2024 LAS Academic Advising Online Drop-in Availability

The LAS Academic Advising Center has select availability for online drop-in advising during the Fall 2024 semester.

Online drop-in advising will be available for both LAS assigned general advisors as well as LAS departmental/major advisors. Please note that drop-in advising sessions are restricted to 10-15 minutes and are designed for quick questions. Please read below to learn more about how to sign-up for online drop-in advising as well as dates/times of drop-in availability.

Online drop-in advising sessions allow students to meet with an LAS General Academic Advisor for quick, 10-15 minute registration-related concerns.

Plan Ahead!

  • The estimated wait time for online LAS General Drop-In Advising is 2-20 minutes.
  • After signing in online, you will be contacted via your UIC email with a link to join a virtual meeting once an advisor is available to meet with you.
  • You have the option to call in with a phone but please use a device with microphone, camera, and speakers, if you have access, to be able to review your audit or other materials.
  • If you have not joined the meeting within 5 minutes of your meeting beginning, you will be removed from the waiting room and will need to check-in again to be re-added to the waiting room.

LAS General Online Drop-In Advising is available every Tuesday (9/10 – 12/3) plus the following dates:

  • Thursday, August 22 – Friday, August 23
  • Monday, August 26 – Friday, August 30
  • Tuesday, September 3 – Friday, September 6
  • Thursday, October 31 – Friday, November 1 (Late Drop Requests Only)
  • Friday, December 6 (Term Withdrawal Requests Only)

All online drop-ins will take place during the hours of 8:30am-12pm and 1pm-4:30pm

(sign-in available 8:15am – 11:30am and 12:45pm – 4:00pm)

  1. Sign in to virtual waiting room using iAdvise.
    Note: Sign-in only available 8:15am-11:30am and 12:45pm-4pm
  2. Select ‘JOIN WAITING ROOM’ in ‘Advising for LAS Drop-In [with your assigned LAS Advisor]’.
    Note: If you do not have an assigned advisor, select ‘JOIN WAITING ROOM’ in ‘LAS Drop-in Advising for Unassigned Student’ (services are sorted in alphabetical order).
  3. Select ‘LAS Drop-In Advising with Assigned Advisor: [will display your primary advisor]’ and ‘CONTINUE’.
  4. Give a description of primary purpose of advising visit. Select ‘SUBMIT’.
  5. Once you reach this screen, you are checked in for drop-in advising. Please open your UIC email and wait to be contacted by an LAS general academic advisor (refresh your email regularly). You will have five minutes to log-in once you receive the invite email.

LAS Major/Minor/Certificate Advising Online Drop-in Availability Heading link

Online major/minor/certificate drop-in advising availability for Fall 2024 varies by department.  All drop-ins take place during the hours of 8:30am-11:30am and 1:00pm-4:00pm, unless otherwise noted, and are intended to be 10-15 minutes to address registration-related concerns. (Sign-in available from 8:15am-11:30am; 12:45pm-4:00pm)

Please note that the following majors/minors will not have online drop-ins for Fall 2024 and will be available by appointment only. 

Anthropology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Computer Science and Linguistics, Criminology, Law, and Justice, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Economics, Global Middle East Studies, History, Law and Society, Medical Humanities, Philosophy, and Physics.
