Interdisciplinary

50th anniversary event of Latin American and Latino Studies

The world is evolving at a rapid rate, requiring more collaboration and creativity.  As the boundaries between academic areas fade, interdisciplinary research and education become even more important for bringing about positive social changes such as improving public health, building stronger communities, and creating a more sustainable environment.

Several LAS offerings span more than one academic department allowing students to learn and work in collaborative ways across fields and disciplines. Our areas of interdisciplinary study prepare students for the global job market and emphasize the connection between the humanities, health and science, social science research, and education.

Students who choose to major in an interdisciplinary program experience a rich and diverse educational experience aligned with their personal and professional interests and goals.  The LAS Career Development team is available to assist students with career exploration.  Many options are available for interdisciplinary program graduates, including public policy, sociology, community advocacy, the creative arts, and advanced study in the sciences.
