About
Janine is a dedicated higher education professional with over 10 years of experience in college advising, student organization advising, and program development. As a first-generation college graduate, she understands firsthand the challenges and triumphs of navigating higher education without a familial blueprint. Janine is passionate about supporting and empowering first-generation students, helping them not only complete their degrees but also maintain strong connections with their families. She is especially focused on the experiences of new students at UIC, striving to create programs and resources that address both their excitement and anxieties as they transition into a new environment.
As an undergraduate, Janine was a transfer student, an involved sorority leader, a student employee, and had the opportunity to study abroad. She majored in English with a minor in sexuality studies. Through mentorship and leadership experiences, Janine discovered her passion for higher education and student affairs as a career.
Fun facts: Originally from rural northern Ohio, Janine grew up in 4-H and enjoyed raising ducks. She now enjoys biking, reading, and spending time with her husband and cat. A novice potter, Janine loves sharing her freshly glazed pots with friends and family.
