About

Rosilie Hernández is Professor of Hispanic Studies at the University of Illinois Chicago. A graduate of the University of California, Irvine, Prof. Hernández is the author of Bucolic Metaphors: History, Subjectivity, and Gender in the Early Modern Spanish Pastoral (2006) and Immaculate Conceptions: The Power of the Religious Imagination in Early Modern Spain (2019). She co-edited Disciplines on the Line: Feminist Research on Spanish, Latin American, and U.S. Latina Women (2003/2004) and Women’s Literacy in Early Modern Spain and the New World (2012; Winner of the Society for the Study of Early Modern Women’s Collaborative Project Award). She has published in Hispanic Review, Cervantes, Bulletin of Spanish Studies, and Romance Quarterly and has numerous volume chapters centering on early modern Spanish literature and visual cultures. As LAS Associate Dean for Student Academic Affairs, she founded and directs operations for First-at-LAS, a first-generation and minoritized student academic success program. She also directs the Liberal Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Research Initiative (LASURI), which works to increase students’ familiarization with the benefits of research experiences across the board and supports an average of fifty-five LASURI Scholars each academic year. Lastly, she collaboratively works with academic programs to expand inclusive teaching and mentoring strategies and decrease DFW rates in gateway courses.
