Yen Duong (PhD 2017, UIC) Selected as the 2018 AMS Mass Media Fellow for AAAS

Yen Duong, who completed her Ph.D. in the UIC Math, Statistics, and Computer Science department in fall 2017, will spend ten weeks this summer as a Mass Media Fellow (MMF) of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).  She will write for the Raleigh News & Observer as a science journalist, using her background as Ph.D. in math to engage the public on local and national news topics.  The AAAS MMF is a competitive national program which places science and engineering graduate students into newsrooms such as Slate, National Geographic, and the Los Angeles Times.  Each fellow is sponsored by a science or engineering organization, and Yen is the 2018 American Mathematical Society (AMS) fellow.
