UIC Professor of Sociology Claire Laurier Decoteau and doctoral candidate Cal Le Garrett publish op-ed in the Chicago Tribune on rental assistance programs for vulnerable Chicagoans

In an op-ed published by the Chicago Tribune, Claire Laurier Decoteau, UIC professor of sociology, and Cal Lee Garrett, UIC doctoral candidate in sociology, write about the need for local rental assistance programs to support vulnerable Chicagoans who live with informal housing agreements (without a lease) based on month-to-month cash payments. The column is a follow-up to their work appearing in “Deadly Disparities in the Days of COVID-19: How Public Policy Fails Black and Latinx Chicagoans,” a recent report issued by UIC’s Institute for Research on Race and Public Policy.
