The Washington Post Published an Op-Ed from History Professor Kevin Schultz on American Civic Ideals during Times of Crisis
The Washington Post published an op-ed from Kevin Schultz, UIC professor of history, who argues that, in light of the mounting anti-Chinese sentiment within certain segments of the U.S. population, Americans have another tradition they can choose to embrace during times of panic: one of embracing inclusivity and diversity. He presents the efforts of Protestants, Catholics, and Jews from the 1920s, 30s and 40s as examples of how Americans have used times of crisis to refashion American civic ideals. Schultz writes that the COVID-19 pandemic “offers an opportunity for the country to come together to define and defend a more inclusive nation.” https://wapo.st/2VCu47F
