Ph.D. Student at LAS LSRI Marrack Sedgwick Awarded a 2021 Microsoft Research Ada Lovelace Fellowship

Marrok Sedgwick, a Ph.D. student at LSRI, recently was awarded a 2021 Microsoft Research Ada Lovelace Fellowship for his work that aims to discover new ways that non-speaking youth with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities can use New Media Literacy to participate more fully in academic work. The fellowship promotes the value of diversity in computing by providing funding for doctoral students who are underrepresented in the field of computing. Marrok is a non-speaking multiply-disabled individual who has a background in film and digital media, as well as theatre. He has said that the application of his art to the field of New Media fuels his desire to demand that society responds better to the needs of disabled kids.
