Professor Emerita Mildred A. Schwartz has published a new book, The Rise and Fall of Moral Conflicts in the United States and Canada (co-authored with Raymond Tatalovich, Professor Emeritus of Political Science at Loyola University Chicago). Their book provides a new theoretical approach to understanding how moral conflicts develop and interact with their social and political environment.

Handbook of the Sociology of Gender  is edited by Barbara Risman (UIC LAS Distinguished Professor), Carissa Froyum (Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Northern Iowa), and William Scarborough (PhD Candidate in Sociology at UIC). The book provides a comprehensive overview of theory and research in the sociology of gender.

UIC’s Policing in Chicago Research Group, led by Associate Professor Andy Clarno, released their second report on the ways that advanced data analysis and coordination between local and federal law enforcement agencies have transformed policing in Chicago. Expansive and Focused Surveillance: New Findings on Chicago’s Gang Database examines three issues: 1) the rapid expansion of the database, 2) data on the ages of people in the database, and 3) evidence of racial discrimination.
