LAS Students Receive U.S. State Department Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarships to Study Abroad Summer 2018
Ten students from the University of Illinois at Chicago have been awarded U.S. State Department Benjamin A. Gilman scholarships to study abroad this summer. The Gilman International Scholarship Program, sponsored by the State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, aims to diversify the group of students who study abroad and their destinations.
Congratulations to three Liberal Arts and Sciences students:
1. Tabitha Birtell, a senior in biological sciences and anthropology from Algonquin, Illinois, studying in Moquegua, Peru.
2. Jonathan Castro, a senior in Latin American and Latino studies from Chicago (Portage Park), studying in Buenos Aires, Argentina
3. Sarah Sanchez, a Honors College junior in Biological Sciences from Chicago (Back of the Yards), studying in Oaxaca, Mexico
