LAS Assistant Professor of Economics Marcus Casey Quoted in Chicago Tribune

Marcus Casey, LAS Assistant Professor of Economics, was recently quoted in a September 25, 2015 Chicago Tribune article entitled “Why Wealthy Blacks are Leaving Chicago for the South.” The article discusses the percentage shift over the last 15 years of black households in Chicago that earn more than $100,000 per year. Casey’s comments touch on the “general trend nationwide” of wealthy black households relocating to the South:

“ ‘Many tend to be more highly educated, and job growth has been stronger in the South for some time,’ Casey said. ‘In addition, cost of living is a big factor,’ with many Southern cities  and their suburbs offering ‘new, large houses in safe areas that cost much less than they would here.’ ”
