Congratulations to Lorenzo Perillo for his publication, entitled “Embodying Modernism: Postcolonial Intervention across Filipino Dance” in Amerasia Journal!

Hot off the press!

Dr. Lorenzo Perillo's article, published in Amerasia Journal’s special issue on “Exhibiting Race and Culture,” is now out.  The article nicely makes an analytical intervention in people's conceptualization of "folk" by mapping a political and cultural/choreographic genealogy of Philippine "folk" dance in the racialization of Filipino bodies through white dances during the US colonial occupation of the Philippines.

Dr. Perillo is an assistant professor with UIC's Global Asian Studies program.
