History AP Todd-Breland Speaks on Inequality in the CPS School Rating System
Elizabeth Todd-Breland, UIC assistant professor of history, is interviewed in a WGN-TV story on the CPS’ school rating system and how attendees of the bottom ranked schools are predominantly minority students. “The fact that the problem has been entrenched for so long is not a reason not to tackle it,” she said. “Equity is different than equality. Equality says everyone should get the same amount of funds. Equity says funds should be based on need. So, I think those are fundamentally different ways of looking at the problem of funding in schools historically and today.” The segment is available at: http://bit.ly/2QysFwc
