English Professor Thomas Named Kosciuszko Foundation Visiting Professor at the University of Warsaw

Alfred Thomas, LAS professor of English, has been named Kosciuszko Foundation Visiting Professor at the University of Warsaw for the spring semester of the 2014-15 academic year.  The position, the first of its kind at the University of Warsaw, will be appointed in the Collegium Artes Liberales, which "serves as a center of excellence in research and teaching at the university. The Collegium has developed a unique program inspired by the curricula of U.S. colleges of liberal arts and sciences and seeks to restore an awareness of the affinities between the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences-- and to nurture creative thinking and civic responsibility."

Professor Thomas is the author of seven books and, most recently, was awarded with a 2014 UIC Silver Circle Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Founded in 1925, the US-based Kosciuszko Foundation operates as a national non-for-profit dedicated to promoting educational and cultural exchanges between the United States and Poland and to increasing American understanding of Polish culture and history.
