Community Garden Research Project Highlighted in New Field Museum Exhibit

Dr. Molly Doane, AP of Anthropology’s community gardening project is the focus of an exhibit now open at the Field Museum. The exhibit will be active for one year.

This research behind this project was supported by the Dean/OSSR, a UIC Chancellor's Award, the Wenner-Gren Foundation, and had synergies with the Institute for the Humanities at UIC--including the Humanities without Walls initiative, The Frontiers workshop, and the Political Ecology Working Group.  This is a community-engaged project involving many gardeners and gardening organizations around the city, including in Pilsen, Little Village, Englewood, Garfield Park, Lawndale, Albany Park and Rogers Park.

It is also a scholarly collaboration with Dr. Alaka Wali at the Field Museum, and Dr. Joanna Michel in Community Medicine, and has been driven by student engagement and research among Anthropology Majors. LASURI scholars and Honors College students.
