Biological Sciences Associate Professor Yury Polikanov’s Pioneering Research on Drug Resistance is Published in Nature
Recent research by Yury Polikanov, UIC associate professor of biological sciences, paves the way for future development of a novel class of antibiotic drugs. Dr. Polikanov and his co-authors discovered how a new compound of this class, iboxamycin, binds to the ribosome of bacterial cells and kills antibiotic resistant pathogens in infected mice. "A synthetic antibiotic class overcoming bacterial multidrug resistance” was published in Nature on Oct. 27, 2021. You can also read more about the research in UIC Today.
