Matt Motyl, assistant professor in the Social and Personality area of the Department of Psychology, was quoted in a March 3, 2016 Voice of America article entitled “Trump Appealing to Voters' 'Stone Age' Brains.” The article discusses a claim made by author Rick Shenkman’s in his book Political Animals that voters are turning to emotion and instinct rather than rationality during this election cycle, and Motyl is quoted as an expert “studying how to take the acrimony out of controversial debates.”
“ ‘Right now, I don’t think there’s much evidence to make any good claims about ways to overcome some of these Stone-Age mindsets,’ [Motyl] said.”
