Anthropology Professor Tarini Bedi and graduate student Aditi Aggarwal’s ethnography paper, “ Dhandha, Accumulation and the Making of Valuable Livelihoods in Contemporary Mumbai,” was featured in the Journal of South Asian Studies! Their research includes extensive interviews with self-employed  non-elites of Mumbai, who are called dhanda. By paying attention to specific words and concepts across Mumbai’s many languages, they argue that dhandha in Mumbai is not just work, but also a way of making valuable lives and navigating the world.
