Professor and Head of Sociology Barbara Risman Discusses the Attitudes towards Women’s Appearances on the Chicago Tribune
The Chicago Tribune interviewed Barbara Risman, UIC professor and head of sociology, in an article about a suburban spa that denied service to a woman due to her size. With “fat shaming, like every other attitude toward the body, women are judged far more,” said Risman, who is also a LAS distinguished professor.
