Interview with Professor Beth Richie Featured in Deadspin Article

A 2014 Jezebel interview with Beth Richie, LAS Professor of African American Studies, Gender and Women's Studies, Criminology, Law and Justice (CLJ), and Sociology, was recently featured in an October 12, 2015 Deadspin article entitled “Getting Mad at Greg Hardy is the Easy Part.” The article discusses the domestic abuse charges recently leveled at Dallas Cowboys player Greg Hardy, society’s puzzling fixation on athletes as moral leaders, preventative policy changes the NFL should institute, and much more.

An excerpt from Richie’s 2014 interview featured in the article reads in part:

“On the one hand, we know that violence is not an isolated incident. If it happens once, it’s probably happened before; it’s going to happen again, it’s going to get worse over time. Having a policy that says that a warning is the solution ignores everything we know about domestic violence. A warning doesn’t do anything. Repeat incidents are going to happen anyway.”
