Facebook and Crime
Steve Jones, UIC distinguished professor of communication, was quoted in an Associated Press article about an Army vetran's posts to Facebook while holding someone hostage last week in Pittsburgh. Jones commented that Facebook and other social media now provide ways to involve the public in crime drama in ways not possible before the internet, and can influence the perpetrator before official negotiations begin.
