International and national criminal justice scholars to come to UIC to honor the life and work of John J. Hagedorn, who was a James J. Stukel Senior Scholar at the Great Cities Institute and professor emeritus in the UIC Department of Criminology, Law and Justice.

The event takes place April 1, from 1-4 p.m., when an array of criminal justice experts gathers to honor the life and work of John Hagedorn.

Our featured speaker is David Brotherton, who is chairman and professor in sociology, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, CUNY. Among his recent books are “Banished to the Homeland: Dominican Deportees and Their Stories of Exile” (2011), coauthored with Luis Barrios; “Keeping Out the Other: A Critical Introduction to Immigration Control” (2008), edited with P. Kretsedemas; and “The Almighty Latin King and Queen Nation: Street Politics and the Transformation of a New York City Gang” (2004), coauthored with Luis Barrios. He is the co-editor-in-chief of “Critical Criminology: An International Journal” and the founding editor of the “Studies in Transgression” book series at Temple University Press.
