Major in Earth and Environmental Science

UIC student with green seedlings

Have an educational adventure. You’ll get to play in the dirt, celebrate your love of climbing trees, and learn about how our world works!

Want to help save and preserve the planet for generations to come?  This major will teach you all about renewable energy, clean water, sustainable ecosystem restoration, and more.

Students enrolled in earth and environmental science analyze and trace Earth’s history from the Big Bang through historic periods. You will analyze fossils, rocks, minerals, maps, and aerial and satellite photos. You’ll also learn about natural resources, soil formation, natural hazards, coastal and earth surface processes, and pollution detection and control. Graduates find meaningful work in conservation, climate change, education, and research in local parks agencies, state agencies, higher education institutions, and non-governmental organizations.
