English is a language of innovation, culture, and ideas. It is the language of trade and business. It is the most commonly spoken language on the planet.
As an English major, you will study literature from many times, genres, and civilizations to appreciate history’s greatest stories. You will learn about history through literature since many works of fiction are based on real events or contain historical connections. You will also develop the ability to think and write effectively and strengthen your overall communication skills.
Our English program emphasizes the “real-world” skill of being able to figure out what complicated texts mean and put together abstract or theoretical information from different sources. Employers in a wide range of fields, from business to government to nonprofits, place English majors’ skills at the top of their lists of what they want in a new hire, making English a solid pathway to future success.
