The Chicago Tribune Published LAS Psychology Faculty Kate Zinsser and Catherine Main’s Op-Ed on Recent CPS Strike

The Chicago Tribune published an op-ed from Kate Zinsser, UIC associate professor of psychology, and Catherine Main, UIC senior lecturer and program coordinator of the early childhood education programs in the department of educational psychology, who write that children under age 5 who are served by child care and preschool classrooms outside of Chicago Public Schools will not reap the benefits of the recent Chicago Teachers Union strike, which led to increased resources for social workers, nurses, and other important supports students and families. The UIC researchers note Illinois’ lack of investment in early childhood care and education leads to inadequate support for kids, families and educators during such key stage of a child’s development.
