Richie on Woman Violence and Crime in Chicago

Beth Richie, a professor in the African American studies department and director of the Institute for Research on Race and Public Policy, was quoted by ScienceDaily on her recent book publication, "Arrested Justice: Black Women, Violence, and America's Prison Nation".

Richie makes the point that harsher sentencing in the last decade has pushed more women, especially African American women, into crime and abusive relationships, and the government has not played as strong of a role helping these women as they have men in similar conditions. Instead, Richie feels that political compromise has led to limited progress, and many women don't feel safe or are treated unjustly, as evidenced by numerous case studies cited in her book.
