Professor Jane Rhodes Featured in Chicago Tribune Q&A Discussion

Jane Rhodes, UIC professor and head of the Department of African American Studies, was recently featured in a September 10, 2015 Q&A discussion in The Chicago Tribune about the FOX series “Empire.” The article, entitled “Looking at Pop Cultural Impact of ‘Empire’ Ahead of Season 2,” touches on issues of black representation on television and in the media, and promotes the September 16, 2015 panel discussion that took place at UIC’s Addams Hall featuring Rhodes and UIC professors Barbara Ransby (professor of African American Studies, History, and Gender and Women’s Studies) and Roderick Ferguson (professor of African American Studies and Gender and Women’s Studies) discussing the cultural impacts that “Empire” has had.

Rhodes’ thoughts on “Empire,” as well as information about some of the issues that were touched on by her and her colleagues at the panel discussion, can be read in full here.
