Professor Evan McKenzie Quoted in Washington Post Article About Rahm Emanuel’s Role in Laquan McDonald Coverup

Evan McKenzie, LAS professor in the Department of Political Science, was quoted in a January 14, 2016 Washington Post article entitled “New Questions for Emanuel on What He Knew About Teen Shot 16 Times by Chicago Police.” The article discusses the controversy still facing the Mayor’s office regarding how Laquan McDonald's shooting by Chicago police officers was suppressed by the city.

Professor McKenzie’s quotes come in response to a series of emails sent by city staffers in the aftermath of the shooting, and how these emails’ existence looks now for the Emanuel camp:

“ ‘There is no smoking gun in the emails,’ said Evan McKenzie, a professor of political science at the University of Illinois at Chicago. ‘But what is the political appearance here? . . . A reasonable inference that he knew what was in the video and wanted to keep it secret until the election was over. And that is a very, very damaging thing.’ ”
