Political Science Professor Dick Simpson Talks about Upcoming Chicago Mayoral in the News

The Chicago Tribune quotes Dick Simpson, UIC professor of political science, in an article about why Chicago holds its mayoral election in the winter. Simpson said he thinks the February election is about voter suppression and making it difficult for those who go against the political “machine” to gather enough volunteers to campaign door-to-door. “It’s hard for candidates to be able to campaign on ‘L’ train platforms and bus stops and other outdoor places,” Simpson told the Tribune. “It would be much easier if the election were held later in the spring when voters could have more contact with the candidates and the candidates could get their message directly to the voters.” http://bit.ly/2NwJnuo (subscription may be required)

In the latest USA Today article on the Chicago mayoral race, Simpson is also interviewed about the campaign money raised by candidate Bill Daley.http://bit.ly/2Nra6bC
