LAS Professor of English Alfred Thomas Reviews PBS Miniseries

Alfred Thomas, LAS Professor of English, recently wrote a review and analysis for Commonweal Magazine about the new six-episode PBS miniseries “Wolf Hall.” The miniseries (as well as the acclaimed books upon which it is based) profile Thomas Cromwell, a lowborn man who rose up to become King Henry VIII’s most trusted advisor and minister. Professor Thomas writes about how the series functions, how it compares to the books, and what it gets both right and wrong:

“And yet, in spite of the brilliant acting and exquisite sets and costumes, something about the series troubled me—not so much the liberties it took with historical accuracy as its abandonment altogether of the facts concerning Thomas Cromwell.”
