LAS’ Learning Science Research Institute Faculty Mary Jo Tavormina Received the 2021 Max Beberman Mathematics Educator Award
Mary Jo Tavormina of LAS’ Learning Science Research Institute (LSRI) recently received the Max Beberman Mathematics Educator Award from the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics in recognition of her 30-year career in mathematics education in the Chicago area. Throughout her career, Tavormina has positively shaped the careers of countless educators, leading to improved mathematics teaching and learning in hundreds of schools. She has been the project director for the Metro Chicago Mathematics Initiative at LSRI since 2017 and is also the principal investigator for the Big Shoulders Fund-UIC Mathematics Initiative among many other UIC endeavors.
