LAS Distinguished Professor Barbara Risman Examines the Use of the Word “Queer” among Millenials and Teens in the Chicago Tribune

Barbara Risman, UIC professor of sociology and LAS distinguished professor, is quoted in a Chicago Tribune story about the use of the word queer among millennials and teens. Risman notes there is a generational shift and a rejection of strict categories. "Queer doesn’t have the restrictive meaning that gay and lesbian have. One can be queer and be bisexual, or only attracted to same-sex, or not, or questioning. One doesn’t take (queer) in quite the same restrictive and exclusive way,” she said. http://bit.ly/2vrxQaJ (subscription required)
