LAS Anthropologist Finds Ancient Coin
Sloan Williams, UIC associate professor of anthropology, was involved with the discovery of a 600-year-old Chinese coin on a Kenyan Island. Researchers conclude that the finding indicates trade between Africa and China prior to European exploration. The coin, consisting of silver and copper, is believed to have been traded during the reign of the Ming Dynasty's Emperor Yongle between 1403 and 1425 AD. The Associated Press, Chicago Sun-Times, and Chicago Tribune are among the outlets to report on the finding.
