Kumashiro on CORE
Reuters quoted Kevin Kumashiro, a professor in the Asian American studies department and education, on Karen Lewis' progression to the top of the Chicago Teachers Union, specifically on her spearheading the formation of a union within the Union, called the Caucus of Rank-and-File Educators (CORE) in 2008.
The campaign platform of CORE was about exposing the realities of teaching conditions in Chicago, and force the public to recognize the slow corporate takeover of public education.
