Faculty Residence Program in Dorms

Kay Gonzalez, assistant professor of Hispanic and Italian studies, lives in the Polk Street Residence Hall with his wife, Elena, 2-year-old daughter Lila and yellow Labrador Pollock as part of UIC’s Faculty in Residence program.

Living in the dorms, Gonzalez is able to interact with students and show them that, outside the classroom, professor are normal people with their own hobbies and quirks. Making sure to be available for a visit whenever he is "home", students often drop by to hang out or to play with his dog. Additionally, Gonzalez organizes several activities with the students throughout the year, mostly just dinner and doggie play-dates for those missing their canine friends back home.
