This talk introduces the recently published Mainstreaming & Game Journalism (MIT Press, 2023). The book examines the historically subcultural position of games and the role of the game industry, game journalists, and critics in arriving at this point. Drawing on interviews with game journalists, the many occupational challenges will be discussed that frustrate the mainstreaming of games.
