Supporting Students’ UIC journey
Diversity through our Student Support Programs Heading link

LAS students have access to robust supports, including First-Year Seminars and Learning Centers for assistance with language, math, writing, and science courses. LAS Academic Advisors, Academic Departments, and the Career Development, Major Exploration, and Internships Office offer programs designed to help students choose majors that best fit their interests and strengths, connect their coursework to the competencies needed for future professional success, and identify relevant internships and experiential opportunities. First-at-LAS celebrates our first-generation students’ assets and experiences, working with faculty and peer leaders to support academic success and empower first-gen students in and outside of the classroom. The LAS Undergraduate Research Initiative–LASURI–awards scholarships to students to work with faculty mentors for a one or two-semester research experience .
At LAS, we take pride in working towards inclusive teaching and advising strategies that honor our students’ diverse backgrounds and experiences. Expanding on the work of campus-wide support programs and cultural centers, we champion the holistic strengths, unique academic pursuits, personal passions, and social commitments of all our students.
