UIC Awarded Partnership with APLU Minority Male STEM Initiative Grants

UIC was recently one of four universities that wsa awarded a partnership with Minority Male STEM Initiative Grants from the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU).

 UIC will use the grant to aid in its partnership with City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) to continue offering CCC students the opportunity for guaranteed undergradate admission to UIC after completing their first two years of college.

The program employs support avtivites that enhance the successful transer of underrepresented minority (URM) male students in the selected STEM disciplines. The Minority Male STEM Initiative grant program supports four-year APLU and American Assocation of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) member-institutions that have partnered with two-year college to improve access and success for underrepresented minority males in STEM disciplines.

Funded by a major grant from The Kresge Foundation, each partnership will use the award to increase recruitment, retention matriculation of minority males in STEM majors as well as strengthen the relationship between four-year and two-year institutions.
