GWS Graduate Concentrator receives honorable mention in UIC Image of Research contest!

Zachary Blair recieved an honorable mention for his work "Affect and Solidarity Constructed" in response to last years shooting at the Pulse Nightclub in Florida.

After the mass shooting at the Pulse Nightclub last year, I began a research endeavor to document and contextualize the event itself, as well as understand the variety of ways people interpret and experience tragedy, grief, mourning, and solidarity in Orlando, Florida. This research project resulted in the publication of "The Pulse Nightclub Shooting: Connecting Militarism, Neoliberalism, and Multiculturalism to Understand Violence," in the peer-reviewed anthropology journal North American Dialogues in October of 2016. Buttressed by my previous research on discourse, difference, and urban development in Boystown, Chicago, my research on the Pulse Nightclub shooting continues to analyze the nexus of subjectivity, violence, and space.

All are invited to attend the opening reception for The 10th Image of Research exhibition on Tuesday, October 24, 2017, from 4:00 - 6:00 Pm, at Gallery 400.
